About

Jona believes that microbiome testing will become more common than blood work. All aspects of our health have been linked to the gut microbiome, including digestive disorders, autoimmune disease, cancer, obesity, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular health, mental health, drug efficacy, skin health, athletic performance and human longevity. Yet, due to the complexity of microbiome data and the rapid pace of scientific discovery (2000+ new studies published each month), translating these insights into practical applications for patients has remained challenging—until now.

Jona’s proprietary AI technology interprets an individual’s complex microbiome data by matching test results to every peer-reviewed study to analyze how the microbiome impacts health. With its innovative “microbiome digital twin,” Jona simulates how specific dietary, lifestyle, supplement and medication interventions would influence health outcomes, with every insight linked back to the original scientific source.

Founders Bio

Leo is the Founder and CEO of Jona, a health technology company that uses AI to comprehensively analyze the gut microbiome and simulate the effects of different interventions. He is internationally recognized for two decades of leadership applying AI to healthcare, including roles at pioneering Bay Area startups (HeartFlow, NASDAQ: HTFL), multinational medical companies (Siemens) and as CEO of Paige.ai. At Paige, he led the company to become an industry leader, launching groundbreaking products globally and securing the first-ever FDA approval for an AI product in pathology.

Leo has authored two books on AI, published over 100 peer-reviewed papers and is an inventor on more than 300 patents. A recipient of the Edison Patent Award, he is a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. He earned his Ph.D. in Cognitive and Neural Systems from Boston University and serves as CEO in Residence at Breyer Capital.

Origin Story

Jona was founded by Dr. Leo Grady, who witnessed several family members struggle with Crohn's disease, Colitis, Celiac and undefined gut issues—all pointing back to the gut microbiome. As he explored the science further, he realized that although the microbiome is linked to nearly every aspect of health, its complexity made it nearly impossible for patients or clinicians to interpret and act on. Leveraging breakthroughs in AI and digital twins, Leo built Jona to unlock the practical utility of the microbiome for the first time.

The name “Jona” is inspired by the story of Jonah and the whale—a journey into the gut leading to transformation and rebirth.
