About

Our mission at Neursantys is to help 70 million older Americans continue living actively and independently by restoring one of the aging body’s most essential systems — balance. Balance relies on our brain’s ability to merge sensory inputs from our eyes, our muscles and joints, and—most critically—the vestibular balance organs in the inner ear. But as we age, degeneration in the vestibular organs and their neural connections gradually erodes our ability to maintain balance.

As a result, more than 55% of adults over 50 suffer from vestibular-related balance decline — leading to reduced mobility, increased fall risk, loss of independence, and social isolation. That’s nearly 70 million Americans, with an economic burden exceeding $280 billion every year.

Neursantys has developed the first non-invasive bioelectronic solution to both assess and restore vestibular balance function. Our PHYBRATA sensor quantifies impairments in balance, gait, and neuromotor control using digital biomarkers captured during simple, 2-minute, machine-learning-powered balance and gait assessments. Our therapeutic NEURVESTA device delivers gentle, targeted electrical stimulation that promotes neuroplastic restoration of vestibular function and the brain’s sensory-motor centers.

Together, these innovations only require eighteen 20-minute treatment sessions over 4-6 weeks to deliver measurable, lasting improvements in balance and mobility and reductions in fall risk that have been validated in clinical study populations from 50 to 95 years old. Deployments with senior living communities, physical therapy groups, and home care providers in the U.S. and Canada demonstrate that Neursantys treatments can be delivered with minimal training in any senior care location — including at home — and eventually by older adults themselves, transforming the care pathway for age-related balance decline and broader neuromotor disorders.

Founders Bio

John Ralston, PhD, is a pioneer in the development of non-invasive bioelectronic devices and adaptive neuroplastic treatments for neurosensory, neuromotor, and neurocognitive impairments that have limited pharmacological treatment options. At Neursantys, John collaborates with healthcare researchers, providers, and payers to restore motor and cognitive functions impaired by both normal aging and accelerated aging caused by head trauma, disease, and spaceflight.

With a career spanning public and private R&D organizations and entrepreneurial ventures in Canada, Europe, and the U.S., including eight previous M&A/IPO exits, John has authored or co-authored over 250 professional publications, delivered more than 150 talks and seminars, and holds 16 issued patents. He earned B.Sc. degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering from M.I.T., a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University, and an MSc in Management of Technology from the MIT Sloan School of Management.

Origin Story

The founders have personally confronted the ongoing challenges of diagnosing and treating balance impairments suffered by both older family members (due to age-related decline) and younger family members (due to sports-related concussions). Recognizing the common pathologies underlying these injuries and the lack of widely available clinical tools for personalized diagnosis and treatment, the founding team came together to create a solution that expands access to effective, personalized care for balance impairments and related neuromotor conditions.
