About
American children aren't properly prepared for their futures. With only 13 states in the country mandating a financial literacy course to graduate this next generation isn't being taught these invaluable lessons. By 2053, African-American families are projected to have a negative net worth with Latinos only 20 years behind them. 90% of wealthy families lose their wealth by the third generation, 87% of teens don't know how to manage their money and 79% between the ages of 15 and 17 don't have savings accounts. A study out of St. Louis University shares that kids with savings accounts are six times more likely to go to college and four times more likely to own stock as young adults than their counterparts who don't. Through game based edutainment, Goalsetter is working to change this.
Goalsetter is a Black woman owned and led FinTech app with culturally relevant financial literacy content for the entire family. Founded by Tanya Van Court, the idea was birthed after a conversation with her daughter around birthday gifts. Goalsetter uses Memes and GIFs to educate kids grades K-12 on subject matter mapped to Jumpstar.org standards.
Parents and family members can send money through digital 'goal cards' with virtual messages attached allowing kids the chance to respond messages received. Kids aren't just sending and spending money with their Cashola debit card but by reinforcing the lesson of delayed gratification through the a feature we call 'learn before you burn', kids have to complete their weekly 'FinLit' quizzes before gaining access to their funds.
Whether being cobranded by a financial institution or being used as an employee benefit, Goalsetter is proving to be a solution for enterprises across a variety of sectors. We recognize this isn't a moment in time but a movement to be led by those who understand the significance of the work and the fierce urgency of the hour. Join us in the fight for economic freedom and justice for all.
