About Us
Grapefruit Health is addressing the massive staffing shortage in healthcare by tapping into an underutilized pool of talent - clinical students. We've created the infrastructure to allow students to work for healthcare organizations remotely while in school. We recruit, train, onboard, and manage this workforce to perform remote interactions with patients.
Founders Bio
Eric Alvarez: Founder & CEO. Prior to Grapefruit, Eric was the 2nd employee at a healthcare referral management company, became COO, and saw a successful exit to Cerner. Eric brings 15+ years of healthcare experience to Grapefruit as a Health System Administrator for the University of Chicago Medicine and Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Origin Story
As an Adjunct Faculty Member at Rush University, Eric's students were consistently voicing a desire to gain real-world healthcare experience outside of their clinical rotation. After researching opportunities, he discovered that there wasn't a viable solution that helped clinical students work and get paid while in school. So, Eric founded Grapefruit to solve this problem and improve patient care.
