About Us
Movement is how we stay connected to the life we love — walking with a friend, keeping up with grandkids, or simply getting through a busy day with ease. But for millions of people, every step takes more effort than it should.
Dephy builds wearable technology that works with your body to make movement feel natural again. Its flagship product, the Sidekick, is a lightweight exoskeleton worn at the ankle that provides real-time support as you walk — reducing strain, improving stability, and helping you move with greater confidence throughout your day.
The Sidekick is designed for real life: discreet enough to wear under clothing, intelligent enough to adapt to your pace and terrain, and comfortable enough to forget you’re wearing it.
Dephy believes that staying active isn’t just about physical health — it’s about independence, identity, and quality of life. That’s why the company partners closely with physical therapists, clinicians, and mobility specialists to make sure the Sidekick delivers meaningful results for the people who need it most.
Dephy is also honored to be the official robotics partner for Nike’s Project Amplify, a partnership rooted in the shared belief that movement should feel empowering, engaging, and accessible.
Founders Bio
Luke Mooney, PhD, is CEO and Co-Founder of Dephy, where he and the team have pioneered a groundbreaking mobility category — an “e-bike for walking” that redefines freedom of movement. Holding bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in Mechanical Engineering from MIT, Luke has spent over a decade advancing wearable robotics and holds 40 granted patents.
Dephy’s innovation is driven by a combination of robotics, biomechanics, and ergonomics, along with thousands of users and millions of steps, culminating in the January 2026 launch of the Dephy Sidekick.
Origin Story
Born from research at the MIT Media Lab, Dephy’s work began with exploring how robotic prosthetic technology could help people without limb loss. That pursuit led to the first ankle exoskeleton in history that makes walking easier — and ultimately to the founding of Dephy.
After years of prototyping, the first version of the Sidekick was developed to support service members across multiple branches, helping them walk farther, reduce fatigue, and recover faster from injury through a system directly integrated into their footwear.
Seeing the success of the early prototype, Dephy developed the first ankle exoskeleton designed for the general public, bringing advanced mobility technology to everyone and beginning testing for everyday comfort and usability.
A pivotal moment came during Dephy’s first real-world demonstration at Lake Nona, Florida. Beta users tested an early version of the device, and their feedback went beyond performance, with participants describing feeling “light again,” “in control,” and “like myself.”
After hundreds of demos, public wear trials, and beta tests, Sidekick launched in January 2026 — comfortable, powerful, and adaptive bionic footwear designed to redefine how people experience mobility, one step at a time.
