About Us

At Sleep.ai, we believe better sleep is the unlock to a better life. Sleep is directly tied to health, brain function, focus, weight management, stress, and overall well-being, yet it remains one of the most overlooked aspects of daily life. Most tools only show you symptoms. They don’t explain the root causes or guide you through how to improve them.

Sleep.ai changes that.

We are the first AI-powered, science-backed sleep platform designed to deliver accurate, actionable insights across both consumer and enterprise settings. Our technology is built on over 800 million hours of real-world sleep data, informed by 250+ scientific studies and validated in 90+ peer-reviewed papers.

For consumers, our SleepScore app turns your phone into a personalized sleep coach. Powered by patented sonar technology, it helps people understand what’s holding their sleep back and guides them through personalized, daily improvements. Users report falling asleep faster, staying asleep longer, and gaining 10–26 hours of better-quality sleep each month, without changing their routine.

For partners, Sleep.ai offers APIs and R&D services that bring proven sleep intelligence into the products people already use. From fitness and women’s health apps to connected devices and wellness platforms, we help companies improve outcomes, boost engagement, and unlock new revenue by making sleep a core driver of their ecosystem.

As the only platform bridging consumer usability with clinical-grade science, Sleep.ai also supports research and validation services through SleepScore Labs, empowering innovators to design and validate products that truly improve sleep health.

Poor sleep isn’t just a problem on its own. It’s a hidden blocker. Improving sleep is the pathway to healthier, more independent lives.

Sleep.ai is transforming sleep from a passive problem into an active solution.

Founders Bio

Colin Lawlor is a globally recognized leader in sleep science and digital health, with over 30 years of executive experience, 15 of them dedicated to redefining how we measure, understand, and improve sleep. As founder and CEO of Sleep.ai and former executive at ResMed, Colin has pioneered some of the most scientifically validated sleep technologies in both consumer and clinical markets, including the first contactless, sonar-based sleep tracking systems.

Under his leadership, Sleep.ai has transformed over 800 million hours of consumer sleep data into AI-driven health insights and coaching that help partners across health, wellness, and technology deliver personalized, science-backed sleep solutions. His team’s innovations have powered more than 100 scientific publications and led to the first-ever government-reimbursed digital sleep intervention in Germany.

A passionate advocate for using sleep to prevent chronic conditions like heart disease, dementia, and diabetes, Colin is known for connecting the dots between science, technology, and real health impact. Originally from Ireland and a graduate of Trinity College Dublin, Colin has a lifelong curiosity that’s taken him from playing the bagpipes to learning (and occasionally mangling) German. He firmly believes that a pint of Guinness may be “good for you,” but having one too many will definitely impact your sleep.

Origin Story

Sleep has always been central to health, but until recently it was one of the least understood aspects of daily life. People struggled with vague advice and imprecise tools that only showed symptoms, never root causes.

Our journey began in 2005 with BiancaMed’s SleepMinder, the world’s first non-contact sleep monitor. After ResMed acquired the company in 2011, the technology powered the launch of The S+, the first non-contact sleep improvement system for consumers. In 2017, SleepScore Labs spun out to bring rigorous sleep science into everyday products.

A year later, we acquired Sleep.ai, integrating the first AI algorithms for snoring and bruxism. By 2019, we launched the world’s first sonar-based sleep app, SleepScore, turning smartphones into accurate, validated sleep monitors. In 2023, we added Bring Your Own Data, making our platform device-agnostic. And in 2024, we introduced the Sleep.ai API suite, enabling partners across health, wellness, and consumer tech to embed sleep measurement, insights, and coaching directly into their products.

We’ve validated our approach through 90+ peer-reviewed studies and the first randomized controlled trial on digital sleep improvement, which proved significant gains in both sleep quality and stress reduction. Our research arm, SleepScore Labs, remains the world’s only dedicated Sleep Research Organization, advancing science and validating solutions at scale.

Today, Sleep.ai unites this history of innovation into one platform: a consumer app that helps individuals sleep better and enterprise APIs that power trusted sleep intelligence at scale.

Our mission is simple: to transform sleep from a hidden problem into a daily pathway to better health, cognition, and quality of life.
