About

FibriCheck is an FDA-cleared solution for detecting and monitoring cardiac arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, with just a smartphone—no additional device needed. Patients take a 1-minute measurement by placing their finger on their phone’s camera. With 1.2 million users in Europe, FibriCheck is integrated into clinical workflows and reimbursable, making it a seamless and scalable solution for remote cardiac monitoring.

Founders Bio

Lars Grieten completed a Ph.D. in bioelectronics and nanotechnology in 2011 and began his professional journey in 2012 at East-Limburg Hospital as a project manager for the Limburg Clinical Research Programme. During this tenure, he established the Future Health department, focusing on digital health solutions. In 2013, he became a senior researcher at Imec, Europe’s largest research center for microelectronics and digital technology. In 2015, he took on the role of guest professor of digital health at Hasselt University. Since 2016, Lars has served as the full-time CEO of Qompium (FibriCheck), dedicated to integrating digital health solutions into everyday clinical practices.

Origin Story

In 2012, Qompium began as a Limburg Research Program student project, aiming to detect atrial fibrillation through smartphones with cardiologists' input. Joined by Bieke Van Gorp, Jo van Auwera, and Kobe Leysen, CEO Lars Grieten was motivated by his father's 2013 stroke, leading to Qompium's registration. As the company matured, Qompium engaged with MIC Vlaanderen and embarked on a 100-day Berlin journey via Grants4Apps. In Berlin, Qompium evolved into FibriCheck and Extra Horizon, the latter serving as the regulated cloud environment for FibriCheck.
