In 2024, global consulting firm McKinsey & Company published an article that outlined standout trends in the $1.8 trillion global consumer wellness space, including the top seven categories experiencing the most dynamic growth. Interestingly, the AgeTech Collaborative™ from AARP sits precisely at the intersection of many of these categories, including two of the most notable: women’s health and healthy aging. From this unique vantage point, not only has the AgeTech Collaborative team seen the encouraging growth of these underserved spaces first-hand; we’ve also been privileged to help nurture its evolution as more and more startups and other organizations join the Collaborative ecosystem.
Last March — in honor of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day — we highlighted five AgeTech Collaborative startup participants, each led by women, that are focused on serving women with breakthrough solutions that address their unique aging-related issues.
Since then — reflecting the promising growth of this space — more such companies have joined the AgeTech Collaborative ecosystem, women-led startups on a mission to improve women’s health and wellness as they age through innovative products and services. Here’s a rundown of these companies and what they’re all about.
Osteoboost
Of the 10 million Americans who have osteoporosis, 80% or more are women, and half of women over 50 will suffer an osteoporotic bone fracture in their lifetime. Osteoboost is a wearable medical device that delivers precision vibration therapy to the spine and hips — the areas of the body most at risk of fractures. The gentle vibrations jump-start the body’s natural bone remodeling system, providing meaningful benefits for bone density and bone strength.
In addition, the Osteoboost platform includes a companion app that provides a complete, science-backed exercise program, educational content, recipes, and a success tracker and motivational milestones to help keep users on track — all with the goal of helping users live stronger, more active lives.
Rosy
Women’s health platform Rosy brings the entire women’s healthcare experience — from low libido and migraine to hormonal disorders and menopause — under one roof, connecting patients and healthcare providers by providing personalized experiences through awareness, education, community and coaching. Tailored for all women in all life stages, Rosy has supported more than 200,000 women aged 18–83 — 25% of whom are LGBTQ+ — filling gaps in their healthcare.
Developed by doctors and psychologists, the Rosy app provides a host of features and services, including personalized, science-based wellness plans, anonymous group events, discussion forums and “Quickies,” short videos created by women’s healthcare professionals that address common, and not so common, health questions.
Elektra Health
Every day, about 6,000 women in the U.S. reach menopause, yet the experience largely remains shrouded in stigma and secrecy. Elektra Health aims to break the taboo surrounding menopause with its end-to-end virtual care platform that supports women from menopause to the decades beyond.
Through its proprietary care model, Elektra Health offers telemedicine care that includes board-certified physicians, personalized care plans and regular follow-up visits with care providers. Users can learn about menopause via Elektra Health’s evidence-based educational resources and can get personalized, one-to-one support with menopause specialists. Virtual events and discussions also give users an opportunity to join a supportive community of peers, helping to improve outcomes and address vital care gaps for aging women.
