The a2 Collective is now accepting first-round applications for the next a2 Pilot Awards. This annual competition offers non-dilutive funding of up to $200,000 to 25-plus startups annually for 12-month pilot projects. The deadline to apply is July 31, 2023.

Dedicated to empowering innovation in AI and AgeTech, and backed with $65 million from the National Institute on Aging (NIA)— part of the National Institutes of Health, through the Artificial Intelligence and Technology Collaboratories (AITC) for Aging Research program the a2 Collective has a mission to improve the health and quality of life for older adults, including those with dementia and their caregivers. Pilot projects will focus on the development, adaptation and feasibility testing of novel AI technologies in clinical and real-world settings.

Awardees will collaborate with one of the three AITC multidisciplinary research collaboratories located at Johns Hopkins, UMass Amherst, and UPenn. Each AITC is a multidisciplinary research center that provides research support, facilities and resources. When applying, applicants should choose their primary AITC but are allowed to apply to multiple AITCs for different projects.

Eligible applicants include colleges, universities, medical or nursing schools, health care systems or settings, and other fiscally responsible organizations, including for-profit corporations and startups, nonprofits, and eligible government entities within the United States. In some cases, foreign components, as defined in the National Institutes of Health Grants Policy Statement (NIHGPS), are allowed.
